THE FIFE FANCY CANARY
Our Show this year exhibitors bench more Fife canaries that any other type. Here below is an example of the standard require to produce the ideal bird. They are a recent breed having been created around the 1950's and now the most popular of our canary fancy. The Fife was first given its own classes only in 1975 which proves how young this breed of canary is.
HEAD: SMALL ROUND AND NEAT. BODY: NICELY ROUNDED, NOT HEAVILY, LINE TAPERING TO VENT. WINGS: COMPACT, CLOSE TO BODY MEETING AT THE ROOT OF THE TAIL. LEGS: MEDIUM LENGTH SHOWING LITTLE THIGH. PLUMAGE: FIRM & FINE SMOOTH GLOSSY SILKY APPEARANCE FREE OF FRILLS & ROUGHNESS. TAIL: NARROW, ROUNDED FILLED IN AT THE ROOT. POSITION/ CARRIAGE: SEMI ERECT AT 60 DEGREES. ALERT MOVING BETWEEN PERCHES. COLOUR: NATURAL, RICH, SOFT & PURE. SIZE 108mm (4 1/4 INCHES) OR LESS.
FIFE CANARIES ARE BASICALLY A ONE YEAR SHOW BIRD AFTER THE FIRST YEAR ADULTS DO MOULT OUT AND PRODUCE LONGER FEATHERS, THUS MAKING THE APPEARANCE OF THE SECOND YEAR LARGER IN SIZE.
CAGE LABEL: MUST BE PLACED ON THE FRONT OF THE SHOW CAGE CENTRE OF THE LABEL SHOULD BE LINE LINE WITH THE RIGHT HAND PERCH.
